Loose trailer kills young mother

An unhitched trailer rolled into oncoming traffic, killing a young mother. Kelsey Cartwright, 48, has been charged with second degree vehicular homicide for the death of Tiphanie Fletcher, 25, which occurred September 26 near State Road 92 south of Fayetteville, Georgia.

Police in Fayette County claim Cartwright drove a Chevy Silverado pulling a trailer filled with a home fitness gym, and that the towing ball was too small for the trailer hitch. Police have suggested that the tragedy could have been prevented if safety chains were used.

Fletcher was driving while her baby and toddler were in the car. The trailer then crashed into the driver side door and struck Fletcher in her seat. She died later from catastrophic injuries. Investigators say she likely never saw the trailer before its impact.
