Top Rated Atlanta Pitbull Attack Attorney

The American Kennel Club classifies pit bulls as American Staffordshire Terriers. The dogs have a reputation for being vicious and dangerous. The truth is that the owners are responsible for the higher level of aggression and should be held liable if the dog injured you or your child.

We identify your options and strategize an effective recovery plan. In the case of a dog attack, we pursue damages available under the homeowner’s policy and file a lawsuit against the dog owner for his or her negligent or purposeful actions.

Pit Bulls Are Trained to Be Aggressive

Pit bulls are not naturally aggressive, but sadly, are trained to attack by abusive owners who use such horrific tactics as starvation, neglect and beatings. The abused pit bulls are trained to be overly aggressive guard dogs or to provide entertainment in dogfighting rings.

Owners of these aggressive dogs are, at a minimum, negligent. Owners who raise the dogs specifically to attack people and other animals are egregiously negligent and may be liable for punitive damages.

The criminal conviction of former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick generated media attention about the role abusive owners play in raising aggressive dogs. Although this was an extreme case, incidents of pit bull abuse occur often. Not only do the dogs suffer, but the abusive practices also result in injuries to countless innocent human victims.

Georgia Breed-Specific Laws

The Georgia legislature passed Senate Bill 184 in 2016 that allows local municipalities to enact breed-specific codes. This means laws may vary widely from one county to the next. Within the Atlanta metro area, several cities have pit bull-specific ordinances, such as:

  • Marietta does not permit pit bulls and Rottweilers to be in off-leash areas, including in dog parks.
  • Lawrenceville imposes registration requirements on pit bulls and prohibits keeping an unregistered pit bull.
  • East Point refers to Doberman Pinschers, German Shepherds, pit bulls and Rottweilers as potentially dangerous dogs, to which-breed specific requirements apply.
